Can a long-distance relationship last for FOUR years....or more???

We Answered:

I can understand your hope of starting a relationship with this guy, should you pop into him again, but the one thing that you have to think to yourself before you get your hopes up, is that he might have moved on. By now, he might be a different person to the person you remember so fondly and (dare I say it) he might have a girlfriend or two already on the go.

Boys of this age are not known for wanting to settle down and providing the type of love and security it sounds like you are craving right now. You have to take it into consideration that girls mature faster than boys, especially if you've had to grow up fast like it sounds like you had to.

I would go for it college wise, and you never know who might be in college with you... maybe you'll befriend a male friend and it will develop into something special. That's what happened to me when I started my degree, I was 21 and overcoming a broken heart caused by the breakdown of a 5 year relationship. In college, I met my new partner who I am now engaged to be married to.

And to answer the question of long term relationships if you ever get into one, my fiance and myself have been in a long term relationship for nearly 6 years and only now we are arranging to move in together. In long term relationships, you appreciate the times spent together more as they are precious, and you find you become your mobile phone providers' best customer!!

It sounds like in the past you've neglected your own needs... this is the time for you to get your chances and you happiness back. You'll never be able to make other people happy, including any guy, unless you are happy in yourself, don't rely on someone else for this however scary or challenging life gets, embrace it and fight through it. The rewards will be worth while.

At the end of the day, it's your career, your future, your life!
Go and live it to its fullest!!

Good luck and enjoy college!

And you shouldn't worry about those girls man, it's only high school, and you just described a typical high school dating scenario.
Teenagers are fickle, no worries, you'll find someone that will make you feel less lonely in college. Also, when you meet the right one it will be effortless :)
