BS in Library Science?We Answered:
To work in any decent position in a library you will need at minimum a MA. And often you can't even get a position at the desk without one.I don't think that it is redundant to have both a BA/BS in library sciences and the Masters in it as well...but I think that there is some merit in having knowledge of another area to broaden your scope in the library.
I would find a few Masters programs you are interested in applying to and see what kinds of undergraduate degrees they require to get in. Then you can make a decision as to what undergrad degree you want.
Also, having worked in a Visual Arts Library in college, try a minor in multimedia programs - photoshop, html, etc...those things will really help boost your applications when applying to grad school and later for jobs. Libraries are having to become "modern" in their research and are looking for people with those skills in computer programs/programming.
As far as the online program..once you find a few masters programs you are interested in...I would double check to see if the schools would accept that degree...call their admissions department or email the head professor in that program and ask if they would accept you with that degree. That way you know for sure if it would be worth getting.
