What do you think about an online degree? We Answered:
I've been taking all of my courses online for my Bachelors in Information Science through the University of North Texas, and plan on continuing into the master's level program (which is also web-based) in the fall. Online courses are really convenient if you need to structure your school work around your job or family life, or if you don't live near the university that offers what you need for your degree. I'm really lucky with my degree in that the information and library science department offers all of their regular, on-campus courses online, because there are many departments at the university that offer very little, if anything, online, mainly because many of the professors don't want to learn how to use the e-class software or are limited in their computer skills. The belief that online degrees are for the lazy is actually a big misconception, and just the opposite is true. Getting an online degree requires a lot of self-discipline, and in most cases is actually harder than a regular, on-campus degree. The workload is higher and often the content of most online courses is harder and more exhaustive. The lazy people that register for online courses find out really quickly that online courses aren't for them because they can't keep up with the workload or the time constraints and fast pace of the courses. They also end up dropping or failing because the e-class software tracks every movement made by each student in the course (course web pages clicked on, how much a student logs into the classroom, etc.), and most professors use this information as well as other methods (class discussion, group projects, etc.) to calculate a class participation grade, so if they're not participating and logging in as they should be, they end up losing enough points to usually knock them down a letter grade.
But overall, if you're lucky enough to find a school in your degree field that offers online courses, and you feel that you can dedicate yourself to completing the work, it's worth trying for a course or two if you need to structure school to fit your schedule.

I live near there off of 20. Honestly I don't know. It might have some Iowan's going there but then again it might just be all Minnesotan's. I am not sure if that's what you mean by your question. if not Sorry thenLeonard Said:
Norwich, UNT or Upper Iowa?We Answered:
I used to attend Southern New Hampshire University, and while I enjoyed the classes, the faculty and advising are absolutely horrible. To be honest, I was a few classes away from graduating from one of their online programs, when I had to take a class that would require me to attend outside meetings on top of doing the class online. They wouldn't let me graduate without it. I work a lot of hours and this wasn't an option for me. I mean this is why we seek online classes in the first place, because we don't have the option to attend outside classes and seminars. Basically they advertised the program in a false manner stating it as completely online, and my advisor knew I would never have been able to take this class because of it's requirements, and she never warned me until I got to the end. I felt cheated. I tried to waive the course for something to substitute, because in reality it was their fault and I thought they would understand. They denied me without even hearing my situation. They even admitted that they never approve to amend a class, although they have the form (weird, huh? Sounds a bit onesided). My point is...look into the online program carefully, but I think you can do better than a school that doesn't really care when it comes down to things. I am an A student and worked really hard to get where I am (and paid A LOT of money in student loans), only to be let down. Now I am back to square one, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. As for Upper Iowa University, I never went there, but almost did. They were really helpful up until I had to wait on financial aid. It took way too long. This is not to say that they are bad, though.
I am not too sure about the rest of the schools, but I can say "stay away from SNHU." I thought it was a good school until they screwed me over (excuse the expression). Good luck!!!

Upper Iowa University. Located in Iowa, but also offers online degrees and an external degree program.?We Answered:
A hybrid program sounds interesting and may create a larger networking basis. There are many “traditional” universities offering online degree programs and distance education. I mention these separately because even thought the terms tend to be used interchangeably, distance education encompasses correspondence, local campuses, hybrid, as well as online programs. It is just a matter of finding a program that meets your career goals, an institution of higher education that is accredited, and the mix the fits your life. Greatest luck with your search.

Has anybody attended Upper Iowa University and had success finding a job? Is it a good school? We Answered:
Upper Iowa is another one of those private 4-yr colleges that was dying on the vine until it discovered online education. There are also campuses in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, & Canada + several US states. Yes, it's "real" in the sense that there are still buildings and a campus in Fayette. It's but one of a long list of such "colleges": See this for more:http://www.jobprofiles.org/schools.htm
