Western International University Online

Bessie Said:

Are any of these online colleges good for a degree in Finance?

We Answered:

You will get a wide-range of opinions on this question, but at the end of the day, at a bare minimum, the college you select must be accredited by one of the 6 major regional accrediting agencies.

While the previous poster is correct in saying that UMUC is a good school, there are several other schools on the list that are well-regarded (and not synonymous with online learning). One good example of this is Benedictine University, established in 1887, and deemed "selective" and worthy of ranking by the US News and World Report.

Personally, I would advise against attending any college that is synonymous with online learning. Attend a well-established university that also has a campus program. State schools often have the best tuition rates and people don't immediately think of online learning when you say you earned your degree at the University of Illinois or UMass.

I hope that helps!

Patsy Said:

Can a college can be held responsible for ruining someone's life with bad ADA staff/policy/actions/guideance?

We Answered:

You've gotten caught in a real bureaucratic booby trap. But here's what you can do:

!) ASAP contact the EEOC office that handles ADA issues (the OCR office) and file a complaint. The point is to get it on record--the time to file a complaint is limited (usually 180 days)
2) About the only thing you will be able to do is force the school to re-admit you and provide accomodations--but it will be an uphill battle to do even that--and you will have to have a lawyer specializing in disability law to do that.
3) Through no fault of your own, you made an unwise decision in attending ANY of the "Apollo group" schools. They do not provide good quality education and exist not to educate but to make a profit. I strongly suggest you go to the VA and find out what your options are at this point--but you will be far better off, once you get this mess resolved as best you can, to switch to a conventional university. Many have excellant support programs for students with disabilities--though you do need to check them out; that's not universally the case.
4) I don't know where you stand re tretatment--but from experience, I can tell you that most students do far better if they make sure any emotional and /or treatment issues are taken care of first before trying to cope with classes. So don't rush it--take one thing at a time.

Good luck to you!

Does anyone else have problems with Western International University?

We Answered:

I had a major issue with not that school but "AIU" My best advice for you is to leave. First off no matter what they say these schools DO NOT have National Accreditation. Meaning what ever standard the U.S. Dept of Eduction has, these schools do not meet. Theses schools often bypass toe "core classes" that are needed to get an degree. They may have local accreditation or regional which is their only claim to fame. But their degrees are worthless.
