Online Schools Social Work

Carla Said:

Poly sci, public admin, psych, or social services/social work degree online; do you think it's possible?

We Answered:

If you select an online option be sure that the school is also a brick and mortor school as well and that the degree will simply indicate you graduated form the school, not that the degree was taken online. In social work there is NO accredited undergrad program (in particular beware of Canyon College - it is an unaccredited degree mill). You may find parts of an undergrad program offered online, but not the whole program. DA

Glen Said:

online social work degree?

We Answered:

In Social work a lot of the course load is in the field and a mandatory amount of hours. Find childcare now. If you are low income, there any many programs in each state that will assist with childcare for students. Some colleges even offer it... look into schools that have this.

Ida Said:

Are online social work degrees frowned upon in the job market?

We Answered:

Yes and No. But really, the question you should be asking is: can I get the job I want with a degree from this program?

Generally, to get a social work job you need an MSW or a BSW from an accredited school of social work. You also need a certification or a license from your state. Most states won't give you a license without a degree from a CSWE accredited school. So, really, the program should be accredited by the CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) and the college or university should be regionally accredited.

There are very few distance learning programs in social work (two that I can think of ) but any program should require some in person contact and field work in order to graduate. If you are going to do a distance learning program, I would suggest pursuing one at an established school with a good reputation. Michigan State is one good option (https://www.msu.edu/~swdisted/) but I'm sure there are others.

Stephanie Said:

is there any accredited online social work programs?

We Answered:

I did a search on the Peterson's site. I chose the online courses advanced search. Selected major: social work. Selected degree: undergrad/bachelor's.
