Don't try to get around the requirement, try to meet the requirement. Retake some of the classes you did poorly in and try to raise your GPA to an acceptable level. If you are not willing to put in the work to meet the basic requirements this early in the game, then maybe you really do need to consider doing something else with your life. Teachers are required to have continuing education throughout their careers. There are other careers in education that do not require the same educational training. For instance, you could become a Teachers' Aide. The pay is lower, but you don't have to put up with the academic vigor either. Good luck!

Yes. They have had both a web and physical presence. It is an organization, with limited government funding, which tries to persuade individuals to enter the teaching profession. In my experience, they have only general and biased information available and are unable to assist veteran teachers of others seeking actual employment.

strictly online no.

your state (CA - my state also) requires student teaching at multiple levels. This you cannot do online - you will need a school that can supervise your student teaching portion.

Further - CA only recognizes one online school - Western Governors. I do know of a few people who did their credential in this manner - mostly online, but they had multiple meetings with their mentor during the student teachign portion. From what they told me, it was a very very time intensive way to go.

You might want to look into the CalState system - they mostly hold their credentialing work after school hours. I teach in Los Angeles and know of quite a few teachers who simply went to Cal State.

not sure what they offer. If they are online, they may not have specific 'start dates'. You really have to get them on the phone AFTER you have read their catalog, student handbook etc.....

but... at my school we have a history of hiring UCLA candidates. The school has partnered with our district, and our school is a placement school where quite a few from UCLA (and USC for that matter) have been assigned their student teaching.

You may have an easier time finding a job if you look into which schools your district partners with. Go to the district you would like to work for, and ask their recruitment office about this. couldn't hurt.

Also, find out how the online school assigns student teaching, it seems you dont want to be impersonal at this point.

Yes, there are. You can receive a CCTC approved Multiple Subject Teaching credential from National University, University of Phoenix, and Cal State Teach. All 3 offer all of the courses online, with the exception of student teaching. Student teaching is one semester of sharing a classroom with an experienced teacher. You cannot do this portion online - but you can take all of the other courses online. I got my MS credential from National University and I took ALL of my classes online with the exception of student teaching.

Also, it was not very difficult at all. For me, it was a much better option than attending class. Also, I got a great teaching job immediately after finishing the program.
