teaching at a private school vs public schools?

We Answered:

I've taught in both public and private schools and will try to answer your questions.

* Do you need certification in private school? This is up to the school. I would say that generally, certification is a point in your favor, but many private schools do not require certification. You'll have to find out what the specific school's policy is.

* Easier or harder? I'm sure this varies depending on your local job market. I would say that, in general, it's about the same. When there is a teacher shortage, both public and private schools are affected. When there is an abundance of teachers, again, both types of employers are affected. Certain specialties may be more sought after in one or the other. For example, special ed teachers are highly marketable in public schools, while private schools may not need special ed because they can select their students. On the other hand, a private school may want a specialized teacher for their particular program (such as Latin or ceramics or etc.) who may have difficulty finding a job in the public sector. For core subjects and elementary teachers, I would guess it's about equal.

* Do you have to share the faith of a religious school? Again, this depends on that school's policy. Some private schools are very deeply religious and require their teachers to sign a statement that they agree with the school's doctrinal statement. Other schools perhaps have loose ties to a church but offer a basically secular education and would allow anyone to teach there. You again need to look at the requirements of the specific school you're interested in.

Hope that helps!

Jessie Said:

which is a better job,a private school teaching job or a govt. school teaching job?

We Answered:

Private pays alot more, but you have to be way well prepared for it.
Public school earns you a decent living and isn't as strict as public school.
I say going for private. But it's going to take alot of school to get into that. In the end, it's all worth it. It makes u a GREAT living and is more interactive and social than public school. You get to know your students so much better and they're so much better behaved than in public school.

The choice is yours :)

Jonathan Said:

when should you start applying for teaching jobs in turkey?

We Answered:

From April onwards, though some jobs can still be had through the summer.

To teach in Turkey you need a minimum of a university degree and CELTA or equivalent. Some schools specify that the degree should be in either English or teaching. A PGCE or masters in TEFL would be a bonus. Most schools look for teachers with at least one year of relevant experience.

Teaching kids in Turkey can be a nightmare. Schools are variable in their treatment of teachers and in the pay and perks they offer.
